Lyla Magazine
March 2007 Issue
"In a world where models drop dead like flies, and reality shows encourage people to turn into the next megastar, it’s good to have a cabaret that kicks you in the gut… A talented director (Shir Goldberg), a crazy musician (Adi Zisman) and three Larger-than-life actresses (Natalie Fainstein, Efrat Karmazin-Weissman and Carine Marom) created together a strong, hallucinated cabaret. The audience applauds. How can they not? They sing brilliantly, the songs are thrilling, the choreography is precise and the direction – meticulous. But with all the spectacle and cabaret – it’s crystal clear that it’s not just entertainment.”

Feminine Charm

“…The three actresses are accompanied by composer Adi Zisman’s excellent piano playing…Natalie Fainstein, Efrat Karmazine-Weissman and Carine Marom are limber, light, eloquent and sing well…They’re completely and utterly committed to the show, and thus, their subtle humor prevents them from falling into the pathos trap. That is the secret of their charm.”

"Great acting and wonderful music make Be Beautiful a witty, thought-provoking cabaret about the impossible life of the perfect woman. … Fainstein, Karmazin-Weissman and Marom are wonderful, witty, charming, deep and compassionate actresses. With the help of clever choreography (Roi Sarouk) and ironic, harmonious and amazingly melodic music (Adi Zisman, who also accompanies the show on the piano), a smart, edgy show - filled with charm, humor and ironic grace - is made, which succeeds in making you think even days later."

The Most Beautiful in the Theatre

"…Natalie Fainstein, a marvelous actress with an unforgettable stage presence, who teamed up with Efrat Karmazin-Weissman and Karin Marom. The actresses are highly intriguing and perform their parts intelligently and with great precision. Shir Goldberg, the director, turns the stage into a wonderful, soft-colored picture, which goes along perfectly with Roi Sarouk’s charming choreography. The theatrical experience would not be complete without Adi Zisman’s excellent music, who also wrote the lyrics inspired by the (beauty guidebooks) and accompanies the actresses on the piano during the show. Zisman’s music is original, daring and tumultuous – and succeeds in giving a new, critical, humorous meaning to the movement and words."

"...despite the feminist manifesr, Be Beautiful is neither a fiery nor a whiney show, but rather proud and humorous..."
"The show apeaks of the impossible range of chores laid upon a woman's shoulders. and when (the actress) are on stage singing, dancing acting and modeling - it's as if they're displaying an additional dialogue between from and content... Zisman wrote wonderful, humorous lyrics and her music, inspired by different eras, serves them well."

"…Three amazing, talented actresses…a kind of musical satire…it's moving, truthful and we can all recognize a bit of ourselves on stage…it's an intimate theatre, so you can see everything (the actresses are) going through…there were also many men in the audience, (the show) teaches them what women think and feel – I'd say that's pretty important, wouldn't you…?"

Your Beauty Is In Your Own Hands

"…The Best moments in the cabaret "Be Beautiful", directed by Shir Goldberg, are those in which you're reminded that the texts you hear are not made-up, but completely real, taken from actual books." (Johnathan Esterkin)

Being the Perfect Woman
03/12/06
"Segments from "Your Beauty is in Your Own Hands" and from another guidebook that helped women learn how to be both beautiful and an accomplished housewife come to new life these days in a show titled "Be Beautiful". Three captivating actresses present actual texts, per batum, taken from both books in the style of a musical cabaret. The connection to the present day and any feminist or chauvinist awareness is left purely to the audience. And indeed, the show in itself is pure fun: happy, funny and enjoyable – and perhaps that's precisely why the message rings exceptionally loud on the way home."
"… The understatement comes across by a brilliant directing work, as in the scene before which the actresses give out, as perfect hostesses should, bowls of red Jelly..."

Woman Power
3/11/06
"….This feminine breakthrough is also expressed in "Be Beautiful" – an enchanting, sophisticated all-female Cabaret by a group of talented young women, all graduates of the Faculty of Theatre Arts in Tel Aviv University, where Kanner also teaches and serves as head of the acting department – which deals with the hard work involved in being a "real" woman. The inspiration to the Cabaret came from 50's beauty guidebooks for women, which were adapted to the stage by the three actresses along with director Shir Goldberg and musician Adi Zisman. The result is an amusing Carnival of ridiculous, heart-warming situations.

The sense of bitterness the rises from the show comes from the knowledge that despite all the revolutions women have gone through since the 50's, most of them are still enslaved to the rite of beauty, no less than before. The only difference is that nowadays no one tells them to be beautiful and quiet. So they talk, sing and ridicule all the fake ideals and so grows a new generation of talented, original theatre creators who disregard the rules and make fascinating experimental theatre."

"…In another scene the actresses face the audience and show them their true figure. All at once they drop their dresses and are left with a corset, barely covering their luscious bodies. 'This is what it looks like', they explain to the amused audience…"
